Community Outreach

Teaching our kids about community involvement and giving back is an important and incredibly valuable part of life. This is why we created Gorrie Cares, our after school program that allows our students to give back through a variety of service projects throughout the year.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Various service projects will be held after school for our students, grades K-5. The seniors from Allegro Assisted Living will be invited to assist the students with three service projects that will be held at their Allegro home. The other two projects will take place at Gorrie in the Media Center.

This structure of this program gives Gorrie students the opportunity to work with elderly members of our community AND give back by helping other children and families in the Tampa area.

Participating students in grades 2 – 5 will also serve as student leaders, helping facilitate the event and ensure the younger students have what to they need to complete the projects.

In the past, projects have included the following:

  • Making toys and blankets out of used shirts for the Humane Society of Tampa
  • Assembling first-aid kids for families impacted by natural disasters
  • Assembling treat bags filled with Halloween candy and creative cards for our troops serving abroad

  • Creating game boxes for the children at St. Joseph’s Hospital
  • Peeling and sorting crayons to make into “Super Crayons” for children with disabilities
